Last week when we went out to visit Michael’s mom she gave me some fresh herbs from her garden. I am now fully stocked with tarragon, oregano, basil, thyme and mint. This isn’t any kind of mint though, it’s chocolate mint. I didn’t even know such an herb existed. It’s been sitting on my kitchen window sill as I brainstormed what to use it for. Today I was mixing a Vega chocolate powder with almond/coconut milk when I saw the chocolate mint sitting all by its lonesome and the combo of chocolate mint protein shake with fresh mint came to life.
As an aside, I’m not really a protein powder person but this week I’ve been researching an article for WalkJogRun on vegan protein powders. I’ve taste tested my way through several brands, gulping down thick, chalky shake after shake, yuck. Today, I tried Vega protein powder with higher expectations. I’ve read several reviews on this brand from other bloggers (here and here) and I have to agree, as far as protein shakes go, this one takes the cake or the shake.
I won’t fool you into thinking this doesn’t still taste like a protein shake. There is a thickness to it, not only in texture but in taste. It’s not light in my typical smoothie kind of way. For lack of a better word, it tastes substantial. Maybe it’s the 25g of protein per serving!
If you’re in the market for a protein powder, check out the Vega brand. It’s vegan, gluten-free and soy-free. And if you have fresh mint I highly recommend adding it to the mix.
Before I go, while Eli and I were walking this morning it began to ever so lightly snow. It was the equivalent of drizzling but it was definitely snow. What do I call that? Frozen drizzle=frizzle? Flurrying? Is there an equivalent word? Anyway, have a lovely Tuesday.
Enjoy and Exhale!
