Have you ever been in a food rut? Not like an, “I’ve been eating leftover pizza for 4 days” rut, but more of an, “I haven’t thought of one new thing to cook in 9 months” kind. I’ve been in the latter camp for way too long. It’s been all paninis, steamed vegetables and taco salads around these parts for months. I just haven’t had my cooking mojo going. But I decided last week that enough is enough, it’s time to get motivated and lucky enough this flavorful and bright avocado dill dipping sauce was born. Before we jump into the recipe, below are a few things I did to find some extra cooking inspiration.
Find Inspiration in Cookbooks
If you’re like me you probably have a handful, if not more, cookbooks collecting dust on a shelf. Take them down and start earmarking pages. I started leafing through The Kind Diet for the 100th time the other day and suddenly felt reinvigorated.

Buy A New Ingredient, Then Actually Use It
I can go on serious autopilot at the grocery store. But the other day I grabbed some dill on a whim and suddenly I had to use it. Low and behold, that’s how this recipe came to be and I’m seriously smitten. This flavorful and bright avocado dill dipping sauce can be used as a dip but also thinned out with a little water to become a salad dressing. Best of all, it’s only 6 ingredients and can be made it about 2 minutes.
- 2 ripe avocados
- ½ cup dill
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar, can sub apple cider or white wine vinegar as well
- Juice of ½ a lime
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons water, more if making into a salad dressing
- Place ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Mixture should be thick and creamy.
