This month was all about the movement that has been missing in the last few months.
Noe is suddenly nonstop. She’s doing a mixture of army crawling and crawling on all fours, rolling and sitting up.
I’ve even caught her sitting up in her crib a few times. The crib was lowered shortly thereafter.
She is interested in everything but especially doors, drawers, cords, pieces of lint in the carpet and paper.
Everything is edible to this child but her personal favorite is books. She naws through cardboard like nobody’s business. I think every one of her books has a corner missing.
With the holidays she was around a lot more friends and family.
And she got a ton more time with her dad due to Michael’s time off. They did a lot of playing and her whole body smiles when she sees him.
On weekend mornings they’ve now taken to spending time together downstairs while I enjoy a little HGTV and tea. I can hear her squealing and laughing as they play and watch Sesame Street.
She continues to be very much a mama’s girl if I’m in the room. But tends to be just fine when I’m not around.
We went to California for Christmas. Noe continues to do well on planes. I even managed to get her to sleep on the way home. This is the first time she’s fallen asleep in my arms in months.
She was spoiled rotten by all of her family around the country: toys, books, sleds, clothes, so many gifts for this lucky girl.
Though, I’m sure if she could talk she’d say her favorite gifts were the boxes and the tissue paper.
Thanks to Grandma we had our first overnight trip away. We went up to Napa for a night, visited a few wineries and were asleep by 9:45, oops.
We took advantage of the extra babysitting help and went on a bunch of runs together.
On the eating front, she’s starting to get a little bit picky and more assertive about what she will and will not eat. She loves bread, waffles, hummus, smoothies and almond butter. She has not been a fan of pasta, grits or almond milk yogurt.
She’s really into sharing right now and wants to give all her food to the dog or one of us. It’s sweet to see how giving things away comes so naturally to her.
We continue to brave the elements and get outside everyday. We had a few good snowstorms this month and enjoyed playing in the snow.
We also spend a lot of time doing yoga in the basement.
I have a long list of new year’s resolutions and one of them is to get more focused on my practice and meditation. I posted a few videos of what I’m playing with on my instagram account @quinoakaleandexhale. More to come on other resolutions as I work through them.
Lastly, back in September when we were in New York, we were having brunch with my sister and her boyfriend when a man sitting next to us ask if he could take a few shots of Noe. I was reluctant at first to let a stranger snap pics of my baby but it turned out he’s a photographer with an amazing portfolio. Here are a few of the photos he took. I just love both of these but it definitely highlights how fast Noe has grown since then. She was such a baby!
Wait, how could I forget? She started talking this month! Her first word was “hi” followed by “hey”, ‘”mama” and “dada”. She’s also said “kitty” and “poop” but only once and I haven’t been able to get her to repeat either.
Weight: We finally weighed her over the holidays and she’s right around 20 pounds. She also seems really long but it’s hard to get a good gauge on how tall she really is. She’s wearing 12 month onesies perfectly but can still fit in to 9 month pants so I think she’s just like her mom and has a long torso but shorter legs.
Teeth: She has 6 and has for many months. I don’t feel any others popping through.
Likes: She is a fabulous dancer and shakes her whole body when you sing to her.
Dislikes: She despises bathtime if she’s not in her baby bath. We’ve tried to just bathe her in the tub a few times and it’s tears for days. It’s all splashing and smiles if she can recline in the infant bath. She’s way too big for it but we’ll just keep it going for now.
Sleep: We feel very fortunate, Noe is a great sleeper. She’s proven time and again that she can sleep just about anywhere. She spent a few nights in the pack ‘n play at my mom’s with no problems. We forgot the monitor on that trip and not being able to take peeks at her was probably the hardest part. She goes down around 6:45 and sleeps until about 6:45. She’s also still taking 2 naps a day: one at 10 and one at 2 both for about 45 minutes – 1 hour.
Breast feeding: I wanted to go to a year and I think we’ll just about get there. I’ve dropped the mid-day feedings and am only feeding first and last thing each day. She is less and less interested so I’ll be surprised if we go much more than a few more weeks. I can officially fit back into all of my bras which felt like a very big deal after almost 20 months of sports bras.
I was Facetiming with my Grandma this week and every time she sees Noe she comments on what a happy baby she is. She really is always smiling, laughing and finding joy in everything. Although we have fussy days and some longer afternoons I feel very fortunate to have such a fun loving little girl.
Now on to the last month of her first year.
Enjoy and Exhale!
