One of our favorite things to do as a family is take long walks around Boston. We usually go at least 4-5 miles looping along the river, headed through the Boston Commons and Gardens, walking along Comm Ave or Newbury or Boylston where we inevitably grab some coffee, then head back for home. With the weather so nice we take our time, letting Eli sniff and run and play along the way.
One of the sites we always pass is the little pond in the middle of the Gardens which during the summer offers swan boat rides. As many times as I’ve seen this happening I will never understand it. The pond is maybe 150 yards at most and less than 3 feet deep. People wait in long lines to take these slow, man powered boats around in a small circle. Maybe the view is much better 15 feet from the edge of the pond.
Most of the time our walks also take us through Beacon Hill. We wind along the quaint, brick lined streets, gawking at the beautiful walk ups.
We usually stop at one of the Starbucks along Charles Street where Eli patiently waits for us.
On this particular walk we stopped for lunch on Newbury at the Trident Booksellers and Cafe.
It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside.
We both ended up ordering the fiesta taco salad which was great and a side of sweet potato fries.
Michael had a cider on the side and I had a sparkling green juice with apple, ginger and seltzer.
I’ve never thought to mix green juice with sparkling water, and I’ll admit, it’s pretty ground-breaking. Refreshing but still green juice-y. The perfect mix when you aren’t in the mood for a straight green juice or if you’re introducing a newbie to the wonders of green juice. It takes some of the kick out of it.
I liked it so much that I ended up making one of my own a few days later.
